Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is the twelfth studio album and first soundtrack album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on July 13, 1973 by Columbia Records for the Sam Peckinpah film, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Dylan himself appeared in the film as the character Alias. The soundtrack consists mainly of instrumental music and was inspired by the movie itself. Bob Dylan born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, United States is an American musician, poet and artist whose position in popular culture is unique. Dylan started his musical odyssey in 1959 when he began playing in Dinkytown, Minneapolis while attending the University of Minnesota. Shortly after starting to play he changed his stage name to Bob Dylan, after being influenced by the poetry of Dylan Thomas before legally changing his name in 1962. Much of his best known work is from the 1960s, when he became an informal documentarian and reluctant figureh read more. I almost wish Dylan had done a few more albums like this. Musically it's loaded with Cowboy Movie atmosphere, a little bit of Country rock, a little bit of very tasty acoustic guitar playing, a few appropriate songs from Bob Dylan about Billy The Kid & Pat Garrett, including the astonishing Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Sounding as fresh now as it did back in the early 70s, this entire recording is short and sweet, just like Bob's Nashville Skyline.
