Melophobia is the third studio album by American rock band Cage the Elephant. Recorded at St. Charles in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by Jay Joyce, the album was released on October 8, 2013, through RCA Records. It is also the final album that features lead guitarist Lincoln Parish. For Melophobia, Cage the Elephant attempted to distance themselves from comparisons of the sound that influenced them, shutting themselves off from as much recorded music as possible. Melophobia means fear of music. Listen free to Melophobia TateModern. not much overproduction, but a lot of silence and real echoambience. Influences and heroes can be heard - the Pixies, sure, but also the Strokes on the tightly wound Take It or Leave It, the Kills whose Alison Mosshart guests on It's Just Forever - but Cage the Elephant aren't recycling, they're synthesizing, mashing big, and swinging jagged guitars with candied melodies, furious rhythms, a slight hint. Melophobia is not going to be met with instant acclaim, especially if you got into Cage the Elephant through their debut album. Even those who loved Thank You, Happy Birthday will find the more constructed and less raw aesthetic of Melophobia to be very disorienting. The band has proved their commitment to evolution in a tight and admirable way, but in that way, theyve abandoned a big part of what got them such a following to begin with. Gone is the loose punk world, replaced with an emotive and brewing development that focuses more on careful buildup than imprecision. Melophobia μελωφοβία is an experimental project created in Greece in 2001. Melophobia's main interest in electro-acoustic, improv, experimental music is crafted and assembled through various analogue sources. The abstract manipulations of sound are alternately ambient and aggressive. All releases have a do-it-yourself punk aesthetic. Various names are used along along with Melophobia since early 2000s and deserted, possibly more not known. Sound project abandoned in October 2016. A series of releases, remasters of old material and collaborations followed the next couple of years. Project was brought back to life in 2019. As with the band's two previous LPs, Melophobia rides crackling melodies and a visceral tumult that's the perfect backing for Matt Shultz's paranoid lyrics: I think your mother wants me dead, he sings against static-cling riffs on Spiderhead. There's a freaky encounter with a spaceman Telescope and a dance-party rager about a wicked girl Black Widow, but the whole thing vibrates with hopped-up discovery
