Zawinul Cannonball Adderley

The first track, Do Do Do is a jumping soul-jazz track and enjoyable. A bit more rowdy than a Ramsey Lewis. Walk Tall is such a staple of his career, you should know it well, my feeling it was Capitol that wanted to highlight this track so they made a compromise on the title. It's odd.

74 Miles Away is probably Zawinul's pinnacle track to my ears. Zawinul wrote a lot of great tracks for Julian bit 74 Miles captures this energy and feeling that is undeniable. The playing is so inspired. In the middle of the track Julian starts making odd noises into the sax and it's difficult to know if he is being a jokester or not but people laugh. I can't imagine hearing jazz like this live. It's infectious and hypnotizing and by the time they come around to the main part, it slays.

I Remember Bird is a blues track sung by Nat follows this up. David Axlerod produced this in 1967.

Wow...."74 Miles Away" soul jazz at its finest.....highly recommended for this track alone.
