Album

The Danish String Quartet, at present the house quartet at both New York's Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society and BBC Radio 3, are taking the plunge as folk musicians with their new album on Denmarks national record label Dacapo, Wood Works. Theyre riding a wave of international success with classical quartet playing in the worlds leading concert halls from Lincoln Center to Wigmore Hall. Wood Works is the name of their last CD, an album full of Nordic folk tunes arranged for string quartet. The quartet even raised funds for the release via a crowdfunding site, if not a first for the classical sphere then close to it. But the most important factor of all is that nobody has ever done anything quite like this before. The members of the quartet in all but one case have arranged folk songs of several Scandinavian countries for string quartet. That's not a particularly common medium for folk song arrangements, but it's the extremely varied nature of the arrangements that really stands out. Theyre riding a wave of international success with classical quartet playing in the worlds leading concert halls from Lincoln Center to Wigmore Hall. Varshav
Boundless space made warm. Fearless fragility. I fly above the dance weightless. Do I dare breathe? The shavings on the floor sparkle as gems. The trees themselves are grateful, smiling! May I have some more?
